RICHARD BATTERHAM: A sale of pots from the artist’s own private collection
Professor Simon Olding, Director of the Crafts Study Centre
There is an exceptional selling exhibition of Richard Batterham's pots opening on Saturday 7th March at Sladers Yard, West Bay, Dorset. It has been displayed with both grace and discerning effect by Anna Powell, the gallery director. The show rings with Batterham's quiet, heartfelt virtuosity. The work comes from his deep personal archive, pots of reference and meditative concern. I found this deeply moving: the processional suite of a life time's work, subtle and at points eloquent of Batterham's personal convictions and a valediction to his thinking and making.
The exhibition is chordal and modest; one cut sided bowl is one of the finest things by Batterham I have seen.
