This lecture takes as its starting point the significance of the individually-made craft object.
A series of objects including a vessel by Magdalene Odundo, a textile length by Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher and a drawing from the newly-acquired Alan Bell Bernard Leach archive will be analysed.
The lecture will see how meaning may be established through critical analysis and a consideration of archival sources and the makers’ own’ testimonies.
Professor Simon Olding is Director of the Crafts Study Centre and the lecture forms part of the Farnham Craft Month activities.
