SHARON KEARLEY
Hidden
Dimensions: 25 x 100cm approx.
Sharon’s MA work researches the concept of line; a line is not always visible or straight, but twists and curves, connects and interconnects. How this line can be manipulated through the application of movement and materials is of interest.
Inspired by the work of the ceramicist Lucie Rie, a series of dialogues was produced in collaboration with other MA students, each responding to practical conversations through interpretation. After careful reflection and consideration on gathered information, Sharon’s response explores trace, impermanence and chance outcome in relation to line.
‘Hidden’ is a piece that reflects the dynamics of yarn behaviour, the interplay and reaction of yarn explored through structural manipulation in the area of woven design. The diverse methods and technologies available to the contemporary designer-maker support the value of materiality and physicality within the world of craft and design today.
