Tina : Process
/Here we focus on dying using a natural Indigo dye with the cold technique. I will use paraffin, honey candle, rosin and salidol. Unified mass is made from the ingredients listed above. Working process consists of following steps: we place these ingredients into a special device, which is connected to an electric oven, materials become homogenous after heating, using wooden molds hot mass is placed on a silk or cotton stretched on the table.
The composition is completed by the artists using wooden molds and wax. When the fabric is completely covered with wax ornaments, we dry it for a few hours in order for the applied ornament to fully sink into the fabric. Indigo dye is prepared separately in a special equipment. After drying, when the indigo dye has already cooled to 20-30 degrees Celsius, we place the waxed fabric into the dye and leave it soaked in for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards we take the fabric out, wash it in cold water and as a result get a blue fabric with white ornaments. This process is cold dying using cold technique with indigo dye and wax. For me the inspiration was Georgian traditional blue tablecloth, which became the basis of my work “Harmony of Nature”
