Magdalene Odundo : The Journey of Things

I attended the private view for the exhibition by Magdalene Odundo at The Hepworth Wakefield. It is a remarkable and very moving exhibition. Not only does it present, in a stunning arrangement, more of Magdalene’s pots than have ever been seen in a museum display, it sets them in the context of art, sculpture and craft artefacts drawn from a wide range of cultures and times. These have been selected by Magdalene from UK museums and private collections and the juxtapositions are always beautifully considered and telling.

It is an unmissable and profoundly moving exhibition, on at the Hepworth Wakefield until 2 June and then transferring to the Sainsbury Centre, UEA. It has been a privilege to lend three works from the Crafts Study Centre to the show, The Guardian gave the exhibition a 5 star review and it is very difficult to argue with that.
